Thank you sooo much for this! A deep dive into music — beyond the notes! We need so much more of this if musicians are going to survive — kind of a vital feature of keeping music alive. I’ve been pushing for a holistic study of music since the late 1990s and people have been calling me crazy ever since! It’s so nice when I come across like minded folks who get it.

And thanks for the tribute to Ellis. I never got to meet him in my time at UNO (on the classical performance and arts admin side of the music department before they finally integrated everything). And at this point, I can only regret that I didn’t make more of an effort to seek him (and others) out in the entire 10 years I’ve been living here — including the past 5 years doing music and wellness research full-time. (Limitations of independent research and shoestring budgets — only so much you can actually accomplish 😩)

But truly, there’s only so much we can learn from static data.

We’ve got to talk to people.

While they’re still here.

Thanks again for this interview.

Looking forward to meeting to you, George! 🙂🙏🏾🎶
