While I don’t support vote shaming, I would suggest that not voting is not a choice this year.
My basic civil liberties — along with democracy as we know it — are on the line.
Indeed, life is always on the line for people like me. Every. Single. Election. National. Local. Every candidate. Every issue.
My quality of life and, indeed, my very existance, hang on the weight of every election.
Can you imagine living like that? Of course not.
Can you sleep at night knowing people in your community are living like this?
Then again, perhaps you have sheltered yourself away in some homogeneous community so privileged as to be completely unaware and/or unconcerned with state violence, tyranny, terrorism against people who live in some other community. If you can even call it living.
“An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” — MLK, Jr.
When you decide whether or not to vote this year, please remember that it is not necessarily you that you are voting for.
I **strongly encourage** you to think about the people whose lives are on the line — now more than ever.
Please, make this election the third one in your life in which you vote.
Please, make it count.
And please, for the love of God and all that is still good in the world, encourage others to do the same.
